A Meta-analysis of the Variable Related to Parenting Stress in Mothers of Multicultural Families

Abstract
Purpose: This study was conducted to synthesis the results of research on relationships of parenting stress in mothers of multicultural families through a meta-analysis.

Methods: A meta-analysis of the final 15 papers among academic papers published in Korea between January 1, 2000 and December 31, 2020 was performed. The correlational effect size for each related variable was calculated.

Results: The result of the meta-analysis showed that among general characteristics, age, monthly household income, Korean language abilities, and period of residence in Korea were the variables that had a significant relationship with parenting stress in mother of multicultural families. Among psychological characteristics, parenting efficacy, the number of children among family factors, and acculturation stress and social support among social factors showed significant correlations.

Conclusion: As a result of this study, parenting stress of mothers of multicultural families was found to be correlated with acculturation stress, parenting efficacy, Korean language ability, number of children, and social support. The results of this study need to be used as basic data for the development of a parenting stress management program for mothers of multicultural families.
